Joseph Trujillo-Falcón
Bilingual Meteorologist
Joseph is a bilingual meteorologist and hosts Spanish-language series and podcasts on MyRadar for international audiences. Joseph is an expert in bilingual risk & crisis communication and works at a NOAA Cooperative Institute, researching how multilingual communities receive, understand, and respond to different weather and climate hazards. His research has shaped how meteorological organizations approach multilingual communication and outreach in disaster contexts. His work has been published in flagship journals and recently featured by the National Academies of Science.
As chair of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Committee for Hispanic and Latinx Advancement, Joseph leads an international cohort of 66 scientists representing academia, broadcast networks, public sector, private sector, and students to elevate underserved populations in the sciences and beyond. He was recently awarded the prestigious 2022 AMS Award for Early Career Professional Achievement for his continued efforts in bilingual risk communication and is respected among his peers. He is an alumnus of Texas A&M University and is obtaining a doctoral degree at the University of Oklahoma.
